Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, holistic, non-invasive and effective technique in which rolling-type moves are made over tendon, ligaments, nerves, muscles and fascia.

These moves stimulate the body to re-tension and re-align to the best of its ability in its own way and time.

Bowen Therapy stimulates the body’s own healing response. It helps restore homeostasis and balance to the body, enabling it to address pain and restore function and sense of well-being.

Bowen Therapy is subtle, and the approximate hour-long treatment is the beginning of a process, the body may continue to respond for about a week. Each body is different and will respond in its own way and own time.

For many conditions, 3 - 4 treatments about 1 week apart achieve positive results. Often after the first treatment there is a noticeable improvement. Long-term chronic conditions may take more treatments.

Being gentle, Bowen Therapy is suitable and effective for all ages, from babies to the elderly and including pregnancy.

Bowen Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions :

  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue

  • Earache and jaw problems

  • Sports and other traumatic injuries

  • RSI, carpal tunnel and tennis elbow

  • Muscle and joint pains – back and sciatic, shoulder, knee, foot, hip, neck

  • Digestive and bowel issues

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Asthma

Many people find that ongoing monthly maintenance treatments keep them functioning well. This is a personal wellness choice.

Annette is amazing. Since my treatments, I have been sitting and standing much straighter, not clenching or grinding my teeth and I feel more balanced and full of energy. Highly recommend a treatment.

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release ®

Scars can be acquired through accidents, trauma or surgery. Scars, however they are acquired, are always the result of an insult to the body and during healing, dense tissue is formed at the site of injury.

Scar tissue is often dense and hard to touch. The scars can cause pain and restricted movement and this can sometimes be in areas away from the scar site.

Every scar represents an event that created the scar and sometimes that event can be traumatic -

  • War wounds

  • Life-threatening/saving surgery

  • Accidents

  • Attacks

Emotion can be associated with the scar and sometimes when the physical aspects of the scar are changed, emotional aspects also improve.

MSTR helps to gently normalise scar tissue so that blood and lymph flow can be restored to the area, and nerves can function more normally.

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release is suitable for:

  • Spinal surgery scars

  • Knee surgery scars

  • Trauma scars such as knife or bullet wounds

  •  Accidents

  • Caesarean section scars

  • Hysterectomy scars

  • Appendectomy scars

  • Mastectomy or Lumpectomy scars

MSTR may also be useful in the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis

Workplace Wellness

Workplace injuries are a drain on both business costs and productivity, and the health and wellbeing of employees. According to Safe Work Australia, work-related injuries cost the Australian economy around $60 billion every year, through reduced productivity, lost sales and lower staff morale. In addition, businesses face increased insurance premium costs.

Some workplaces require employees to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time while others require strenuous physical exertion. Injuries can result from all of these.

Based on the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and Safe Work Australia’s Compendium of Workers’ Compensation Statistics, sprains and strains account for 41.8%  of all injuries.

Soft tissue disorders represent 6.3 per cent of all workplace injury claims in Australia. These are commonly caused by overexertion or repeating a movement incorrectly for long periods, meaning it can be some time before you notice any symptoms.

Spinal injuries are responsible for 6 per cent of work-related injuries, usually a result of poor lifting putting undue pressure on the back, or from bad sitting posture.

Do you or your employees interact with customers and clients? It is difficult to work productively or provide good quality service when in pain.

People who feel well, healthy and appreciated are more likely to work well and give better customer service.

Stress affects the body both mentally and physically. Understanding and managing the risk of mental health and psychological injury is now a part of managing a workforce. Each person is an individual, with individual strengths, vulnerabilities and resilience and so how to manage and support mental wellbeing in the workplace is a complex area.

The positive effects of a therapeutic touch from a caring manual therapist on a person’s mental and physical wellbeing are becoming recognised. Reduction in pain and an increased sense of wellbeing have been recorded in studies.

How can Bowen Therapy help with workplace injuries and wellness?

Bowen Therapy can be effective treatment for both acute and chronic injuries. Each Bowen Therapy treatment is tailored to be effective for each individual employee.

The gentle moves in specific locations of Bowen Therapy stimulate the body to move from the stressed state of ‘flight/fight/fright’ in a relaxed state of ‘rest/digest/repair.

Bowen Therapy treatments stimulate the individual healing response of the body, and the body begins a process of re-tensioning and re-aligning muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, organs and fascia. Areas of the body that were tight, loosen and areas that have become inhibited and weak are encouraged to return to working. The muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia return to being balanced and functioning well.

Employees who feel appreciated, who feel that the company invests in their wellbeing are more likely to work well. It makes sense to bring the benefits of Bowen Therapy into your workplace.
